TEMPE, Ariz. - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) by being named All-Academic Team award recipients for the 2018-19 academic year.
Both the Islander men and women hit above a team cumulative 3.20 GPA for both fall and spring semesters to earn the ITA All-Academic Team award. In addition, 10 student-athletes were named ITA Scholar Athletes for earning a varsity letter, maintaining a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and been at the school for at least two semesters. This marks the fifth-straight year the women have earned the ITA team award.
The Islander women had six individuals earn scholar-athlete distinctions for 2018-19.
Maria Maldonado,
Kei Kato,
Myu Kageyama,
Vanessa Reinicke,
Mariya Shumeika and
Camille Townsend hit over a 3.5 GPA this year. On the men's side, four Islanders earned the scholar-athlete award led by
Thibault Frumholz,
Carlos Pedrosa Cuevas,
Thomas Rodrigues Lopes and
Kyohei Yamanaka.
This past spring marked the 27th semester that the Islander men's and women's tennis team earned over a 3.00 team cumulative GPA. The men captured the Southland Conference tournament title in 2019 and the women's team earned its third-straight NCAA APR Recognition Award.
As a program, the Islanders have reached 11 NCAA Tournaments in program history and captured 25 Southland titles.
