Baseball capitilizes opportunities in win at SHSU

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi baseball team picked up an 8-4 victory over Sam Houston State on Saturday evening at Don Sanders Baseball Stadium in Huntsville, Texas.
- The Islanders improve to 29-20 overall and 13-12 in Southland play. The Bearkats fall to 24-19 overall and 14-8 in league action.
- Sophomore John Gaddis picked up the win. He went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out nine batters and walked just two.
- SHSU had four errors on the day, leading to three unearned runs as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored runs in four different innings.

- The Islanders scored one in the first, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. A&M-Corpus Christi had eight runs on nine hits with no errors.
- Sam Houston state had four runs on seven hits with four errors. The Bearkats scored two in the first and two in the ninth.

- With one down in the first, Buts and Sanchez Jr. drew back-to-back walks. Williams hit an RBI single to center to score Williams for the game's first run.
- Williams led off the fourth with a single and Marbach was hit by a pitch. Jeffries IV singled to short and Williams was able to score on an error by the shortstop. Jeffries IV then stole second and Marbach came around to score on a throwing error by the catcher. After an out, Rivera-Chijin hit a single to right to drive in Jeffries IV to make it a 4-2 Islander lead.
- Fluta and Anderson led off the sixth with back-to-back singles. Burts laid down a sacrifice bunt that the Bearkats were unable to convert to load the bases. Sanchez drew a four-pitch walk to score Fluta. After a pair of outs, Jeffries IV worked a six-pitch walk to score the Islanders' sixth run.
- In the seventh, Rivera-Chijin reached second on a dropped fly ball and went to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Anderson drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Burts hit a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Rivera-Chijin. Anderson went to second on a failed pickoff attempt and moved up to third on a wild pitch. Sanchez Jr. hit an RBI single to right center to score Anderson to make it 8-2 Islanders.
