CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi head golf coach
Joni Stephens has announced the addition of
Aimee Aleman to the Islanders 2019-20 roster. Aleman, a native of San Antonio, played at Sandra Day O'Connor High School and spent her freshman season at the University of the Incarnate Word. She will be a redshirt freshman this fall on the Island.
"Aimee was a good junior golfer, with consistent tournament scores around 75-76," said Stephens. "Due to a coaching change at her previous institution, Aimee was red-shirted and did not see any competition her freshman year. She is committed to proving she can be a valuable addition to the team and to earn a travel spot, and I believe she has the fundamentals and the work ethic necessary to make that happen. Aimee has a compact, repeatable swing, and a solid short game. She understands there are areas of her game that need continued work for her to be successful at this level, and she is determined to improve. We are pleased to welcome Aimee as the newest member of our 2019-20 roster."
During her junior career, Aleman was a TJGT medalist at the 2018 Onion Creek Winter Classic in the 15-18 Division with rounds of 76 and 79. She finished second at the 2018 STPGA Brackenridge Tournament where she shot a 76. She finished third in the STPGA 2018 San Antonio Open with rounds of 78 and 75. She advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTGA State Amateur Championship in 2018. Aleman also was a medalist at the STPGA Prestige Tour at the New Braunfels Showcase Championships for the 15-18 age division, shooting rounds of 75 and 77.
An active member in her community, Aleman has performed service projects at the Valero Texas Open, the Ronald McDonald House, the San Antonio Food Bank, the Houston Street Charities and Birdies for Charity. She is the daughter of Javier and Yvonne Aleman.
