Justin Taylor absorbed a hit-by-pitch to place runners at the corners, a UTSA balk scored the Islanders' first run of the game.
Thomas Jeffries IV pushed Taylor over to third on a sacrifice hit, allowing Sanchez Jr. to close the gap to a 6-2 margin behind an RBI single up the middle.
- Following a Taylor one-out walk, Jeffries IV and Fluta generated some offense on back-to-back singles, scoring Taylor and setting up the former on third. Sanchez Jr. took advantage during the next at-bat, plating Jeffries IV on a sac fly to right field and cutting the lead down to just two runs, now 6-4.
