Islanders upset Nicholls in SLC Tournament, 69-56

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball program (16-15, 8-10 Southland) upended third-seeded Nicholls (20-11, 14-4 Southland) in Friday afternoon's SLC Tournament second round, punching a bid to Saturday's semifinals against Stephen F. Austin behind a 69-56 victory at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
- Juniors Alexes Bryant and Dae Evans headlined the Islanders' offensive surge, dropping a team-best 14 points apiece with a combined 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Meanwhile, fellow junior Emma Young posted the game's lone double-double, notching a 10-point, 13-rebound performance with three assists and two blocks.

Key Islander Statistics
- For the game, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi closed out the competition shooting 32.4 percent (24-of-74) from the floor, 12.5 percent (2-of-16) beyond the arc and 73.1 percent (19-of-26) at the charity stripe.
- Outside of an early two-point deficit, the Islanders played from ahead the entire game (37:43 minutes), initially jumping out to a 23-15 advantage through the first period before securing that lead behind solid performances in the third (20-to-17) and fourth (16-to-13) quarters.
- A&M-Corpus Christi consistently outworked the Colonels on the glass throughout the matchup, outrebounding Nicholls by a significant 12 boards (56-to-44). Notably, the Islanders pulled down a season-high 24 offensive rebounds, generating 25 second chance points compared to Nicholls' 11.
- While the Islanders' six fewer turnovers (10-to-16) may seem relatively marginal, the Blue & Green managed to convert those changes-in-possession into points with much higher efficiency (23-to-4).
- Last, but certainly not least, the A&M-Corpus Christi offense pounded the ball inside, outpacing the Colonels by a 40-24 margin in terms of points in the paint.
- Junior Dalesia Booth contributed the Islanders' other double-digit performance of the day, dropping 10 points with five rebounds.

Austin (25-5, 16-2 Southland), matching wits with the Ladyjacks at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 16 in Katy, Texas. The game will serve as a rematch of this season's earlier home upset by the Blue & Green, as A&M-Corpus Christi knocked off then-league undefeated SFA by a 46-44 margin on Feb. 20 at the Dugan Wellness Center.
