- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball team (17-15, 8-10 Southland) managed to breakthrough into the program's second-ever Southland Conference Championship appearance, dispatching second-seeded Stephen F. Austin (25-6, 16-2 Southland) in Saturday afternoon's semifinal behind a 58-56 victory at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

- For the game, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi closed out the competition shooting 47.6 percent (20-of-42) from the floor, 25.0 percent (2-of-8) beyond the arc and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) at the charity stripe.
- The Ladyjacks proved a formidable opponent throughout the semifinal contest, as the lead was exchanged 13 times and game sat tied on 11 separate occasions. All-in-all, the matchup was tied for 7:05 while the Islanders held sway for 18:48 and SFA worked from a lead for 14:06.
- While the Blue & Green only committed just two fewer turnovers (20-to-22) for the game, A&M-Corpus Christi consistently managed to convert those changes-in-possesion to points much more efficiently, scoring 23 to the Ladyjacks' 15.

Tiara Matthews added solid contributions as well, combining for 13 points with three rebounds and two steals.

- With the semifinals victory secured, the Islanders advance to their second-ever Southland Conference Tournament Championship, facing off against No. 4 Abilene Christian (22-9, 13-5 Southland) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 17 in Katy, Texas. A&M-Corpus Christi's earned its lone trip to the SLC Championship round during the 2009-10 season, falling to Lamar by an 86-59 margin.
