Softball battles close in road Friday doubleheader

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi softball team fell to Lamar University in a pair of Southland Conference games on Friday in Beaumont, Texas.
- The Islanders played close but fell by a final of 5-4 in both games to the Cardinals.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is now 1-4 in Southland games while Lamar improves to 4-1 in league action.
- Emilee Baker went 5-for-6 in the two games with four RBIs and two runs scored. She hit her first home run of the year and added a double to go along with two stolen bases.

Game One Islander Statistics
- The Islanders scored once in the third, twice in the fourth and added one in the fifth. A&M-Corpus Christi had four runs on eight hits with four errors.
- Lamar scored twice in the third, twice in the fifth and once in the seventh. The Cardinals had five runs on nine hits with no errors.
- Baker led off the third with a double to left and went to third on an Ashley Moss single. Emily Vela hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Baker for the game's first run.
- In the fourth, Alyson Silvas singled to lead off and she went to second as Kandace Johnson was hit by a pitch. Samantha Burke moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt. Baker singled to left to drive in Silvas to tie the game, 2-2. Moss would drive in Johnson on the next at bat with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-2 Islanders.
- Thomas made it a two-run game as she led off the fifth with a home run over the left center field fence for her third big fly of the season.
- Baker went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Silvas went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Moss was 1-for-3 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
- Thomas went 1-for-3 with a fifth inning home run. She also reached on a walk.
- Kennedy Johnson went 1-for-3.
- Kandace Johnson got the start and went 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. She struck out three and walked three. Johnson set the Cardinals down in order in the fourth
- Alexis Tovar finished off the fifth inning, getting a double play and a groundout against the two batters she faced.

Game Two Islander Statistics
- The Islanders scored four runs on nine hits with no errors. A&M-Corpus Christi scored once in the first and three times in the fourth.
- Lamar scored once in the first, once in the third, once in the fourth and two in the sixth. The Cardinals had five runs on 10 hits with three errors.
- Moss led off the first with a single up the middle. Thomas reached on an error but Moss was tagged out tying to advance to third. Thomas would go to second on a single from Kandace Johnson and came in to score on a single from Kennedy Johnson for the game's first run.
- Kennedy Johnson doubled to left to lead off the fourth and went to third on a groundout. Whitney Wendel drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Baker continued her hot streak as she launched her first home run of the year over the left field fence to put the Islanders up, 4-2.
- Baker went 2-for-3 with three RBIs coming on her fourth-inning three-run blast. She also stole a base.
- Kennedy Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored.
- Thomas was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Wendel drew a pair of walks and scored in the fourth.
- Burke was 1-for-2 in the second game.
- Moss and Kandace Johnson each went 1-for-4 at the plate.
- Alexis Ruel went 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. She struck out one and walked three.
