Islanders remain perfect at home; defeat Sugar Bears 67-47

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball team concluded their 2019 home slate with a 67-47 victory over the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Saturday afternoon inside the Dugan Wellness Center. 
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi improves to 8-3 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Southland. The Sugar Bears fall to 5-6 and 1-1 in conference action. 
- A&M-Corpus Christi keeps their home record at a perfect 6-0 to start the year and are winners of four straight games dating back to Dec. 7.
- The Islanders' defense allowed a season low 47 points in today's contest. 
- Today's starting five included; Alexes Bryant, Dae Dae Evans, Emma Young, Dalesia Booth and Tiara Matthews

Key Islander Statistics
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi jumped out to a quick 15-3 lead over the Sugar Bears in the first eight minutes. As a team, the blue and green shot 55-percent from the field in the first period. 
- The Islanders made 38 trips to the charity stripe, converting 28 free throws for 73.7-percent. 
- Evans led the A&M-Corpus Christi offense with 12 points in 25 minutes of action. She also added three steals, two rebounds and an assist. 
- Both Young and Booth finished with 11 points. Booth also added two steals, three assists, seven defensive rebounds and a block.
- Young joined Booth with three assists, grabbed three rebounds and shot four-of-five from the free throw line, three-of-five from the field and one-of-two from beyond the arc. 
- Freshman forward Alecia Westbrook nearly broke double figures for the first time of her career, scoring a career high nine points in just 16 minutes of play. Westbrook collected most of her points from the charity stripe, shooting seven-of-nine, while also grabbing four rebounds. 
- Bryant added eight points and four rebounds. 
- Matthews and freshman Hayle Campbell each added five points. Matthews also grabbed six boards while Giana Wright and Torrionna Nesbitt scored three points apiece. Nesbitt also recorded a block 
- The Islander defense was once again out in full force, causing 16 turnovers on nine steals. Those 16 turnovers resulted in 20 points for the blue and green. 
- Collectively, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi shot 42.2-percent from the field compared to the Sugar Bears' 36.5-percent. 
- A&M-Corpus Christi scored 28 points inside the paint and the Islanders bench added 20 points. 
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi led from start to finish, leading by as many as 25 points midway through the fourth quarter. 

Islander Notables
- Young is now tied for No. 6 all-time in career defensive rebounds with 380. Her one steal today also puts her No. 9 all-time with 120 and is just two assists shy of taking the No. 5 spot of 237. 
- With her three steals today, Evans now moves into the No. 4 slot all-time for steals in a career with 146. 
- Booth continues to inch closer to the all-time career shot block record, now just 16 away from the tying the top spot of 124 set back in 2004. 
- Today's game marks the fifth straight game in which three Islanders have reached double digit scoring. 
- Nine our of the 11 players that saw action today scored a basket and 10 out of the 11 collected a rebound.
