Defense leads volleyball to sweep of Sugar Bears

- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team swept host Central Arkansas, 3-0, on Friday evening at the Farris Center in Conway, Ark., to advance in the 2019 Southland Conference Tournament.
- The No. 4 seed Islanders improved to 19-11 on the season while No. 5 seed UCA falls to 16-14.
- The Sugar Bears hit just .123 for the match as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi recorded eight total blocks in the match.
- The Islanders' 62 team digs were the most this season in a three-set match.

Key Islander Statistics
- The Islanders got off to a strong start, hitting .412 in the first set with 19 kills. UCA was held to a .147 attack percentage with nine kills and four errors.
- Chloe Simon nearly picked up a double-double with 12 digs and nine kills. She hit .286 for the match.
- Madison Green finished with 19 assists, nine digs and seven kills.
- Rachel Young hit .429 with seven kills and just one attacking error. She added three assists and two blocks.
- Julia Carter had four blocks defensively, finishing whit nine kills and an assist.
-Kylie Filipiak had seven kills and two digs.
- Sam Dumity added six digs to go along with four digs, two assists and two blocks.
- Carissa Barnes had 22 digs and a pair of assists.

- Friday marked the 10th 3-0 sweep victory of the season for A&M-Corpus Christi.
- The Islanders are now 9-5 all time in Southland Tournament play. 2019 marks the first time A&M-Corpus Christi has been the No. 4 seed.
