- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball program (8-6, 2-1 Southland) powered past Northwestern State (6-8, 1-2 Southland), 79-55, in the Islanders' Southland home opener Wednesday evening at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
- Junior
Dae Dae Evans led the team with 31 points, a career high, finishing 12-of-22 from the floor, 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and 100 percent from the free throw line (2-of-2). Further, the junior guard also finished with a notable zero turnovers, two assists and one steal.

- An excellent first half helped the Islanders jump out to a commanding 34-19 advantage, averaging 42.9 percent (15-of-35) from the floor and 3-of-7 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
- For the game, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished shooting 45.6 percent (31-of-68) overall, 46.2 percent (6-of-13) at the three point line and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) at the charity stripe.
- Outside of Evans, two other Islanders compiled double-digit performances on the evening: fellow juniors
Dalesia Booth (17 points) and
Tiara Matthews (12 points). Juniors

Alexes Bryant also put together strong numbers, as the former earned a team-best six assists with three steals while the latter blocked four shots and dished out five assists.
- As a group, A&M-Corpus Christi dominated the boards, outrebounding the Lady Demons 50-to-26. Of the Islanders's 50 rebounds, 21 came off the offensive glass, leading to a sizable 22-to-2 gap in second chance points.
