Volleyball hosts Tigers and Hurricanes Friday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team will host a double header on Friday, Sept. 7 at the Dugan Wellness Center. The Islanders will face Texas Southern at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. showdown with ACC-member Miami.

- This will be the 20th meeting between the Islanders and Texas Southern.
- This is the first meeting between the University of Miami and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- This is just the third ACC opponent the Islanders have ever faced. Earlier this year, A&M-Corpus Christi took on Clemson and Duke.
- The Tigers have never beaten the Islanders in 19 tries. Those matches have never gone five sets.
- 14 times the Islanders have swept the Tigers, 3-0, and five times it has been 3-1.
- The two teams met three times in 2003 and 04.
- Rachel Young is one of three Islanders to appear in all 27 sets this year. She leads the team with 2.26 kills per set. The redshirt freshman is hitting .326 this season.
- Madison Green has started all seven matches with Young and is averaging 3.96 assists, 2.26 digs and 2.11 kills per set in her junior season.
- Green recorded the conference's only triple-double of the year, notching 33 assists, 12 digs and 10 kills in a five-set loss to South Florida on Aug. 31 at LSU.
- Young set a career-high with 17 kills against UTRGV on Aug. 28 at home. She tallied two double-digit kill performances last weekend with 12 vs. USF and 14 against Duke.
- Jenna Krenek had a solid weekend defensively. The sophomore recorded a career-high 26 digs against South Florida on Friday and followed it up with a 19 dig performance against Duke on Saturday.
- Chloe Simon also reached double-digit dig totals twice last weekend. She had a double-double against USF with 10 kills and 11 digs. On Saturday, she had a career-best 14 digs with nine kills against Duke.
- Jenna Lyons set a career-high with 11 kills against South Florida on Friday at LSU. She has now surpassed double-digits in kills twice this year.
- Sam Dumity leads the team in blocks as a true freshman. Dumity had four block assists against Duke during Saturday's match.
- This is the 19th season of Islander Volleyball. The program began back in 2000.
- The roster features 10 players from Texas. Other states/countries represented include Indiana, California, New York, New Zealand and Israel.
- The roster features seven true freshmen. Six have seen action this year.
