CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team opens the 2018 Southland Conference schedule at home this week with games on Thursday and Saturday at the Dugan Wellness Center. The Islanders will face Nicholls State at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, followed by a match with New Orleans on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.

- The Islanders are 5-7 all time in Southland Conference openers.
- Each of the past three years, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has won their conference opener.
- Additionally, the team is 7-5 all time in home Southland Conference openers and has won six in a row.
- The Islanders and Nicholls State met just once last season, a 3-1 victory for A&M-Corpus Christi back on Sept. 28 at the Dugan. Then-freshman
Chloe Simon led the way offensively with 12 kills. The Islanders hit .294 for the match and held the Colonels to just .147 attack percentage with 20 errors.
- The match at New Orleans last season was the only five-set Southland victory for the Islanders on the year.
Madison Green had 17 digs and nine kills in a match that featured a 6-0 Islander run late in the fifth set to clinch victory. The New Orleans win was No. 2 in a string of five-straight victories for A&M-Corpus Christi to begin the conference slate.
- In the conference rankings, A&M-Corpus Christi ranks seventh in kills at 11.53 kills per set, seventh in assists at 10.67 set and eighth in digs at 14.51 per set.

Rachel Young is sixth in the conference in attacking percentage at .301.

Jenna Krenek ranks ninth in the Southland at 3.64 digs per set.

Madison Green recorded the conference's first triple-double of the year, notching 33 assists, 12 digs and 10 kills in a five-set loss to South Florida on Aug. 31 at LSU.
- Green has been named to the Mizzou, South Carolina and Islander All-Invitational teams this season.
Sam Dumity earned All-Islander Invitational accolades as well.
- The Islanders added two junior college transfers in
Eloise van Velthooven (Parkland College) and
Kayla Valigura (Blinn College).
- New assistant coach
Alexis Crimes was an alternate for Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She played collegiately at Long Beach State.
- Green, Young,
Chloe Simon and Krenek each played for the beach volleyball team in the spring of 2018.
- This is the 19th season of Islander Volleyball. The program began back in 2000.
- The roster features 10 players from Texas. Other states/countries represented include Indiana, California, New York, New Zealand and Israel.
- The roster features seven true freshmen. Six have seen action this year.
