TEMPE, Ariz. - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) by being named All-Academic Team award recipients for the 2017-18 academic year.
Both the Islander men and women hit above a team cumulative 3.20 GPA for both fall and spring semesters to earn the ITA All-Academic Team award. In addition, 13 student-athletes were named ITA Scholar Athletes for earning a varsity letter, maintaining a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and been at the school for at least two semesters. This marks the fourth-straight year the women have earned the ITA team award.
The Islander women had seven individuals earn scholar-athlete distinctions for 2017-18.

Louise Trigona and
Marina Vicens Miquel all hit over a 3.5 GPA this year. On the men's side, six Islanders earned the scholar-athlete award led by

Thomas Rodrigues Lopes,
Okkie Kellerman,
Kyohei Yamanaka,
Lars Bijsterbosch and
David Ambrozic.
This past spring marked the 24th semester that the Islander men's and women's tennis team earned over a 3.00 team cumulative GPA. The women captured their third-straight Southland Conference regular season title in 2018 and also earned back-to-back NCAA APR Recognition Awards. TennisRecruiting.net ranked the Islander women's recruiting class at No. 12 among the nation's mid-major programs.
The men's team finished the year ranked sixth in the Texas Division I rankings, the highest among any Southland Conference schools. Earlier this year, the men jumped up to No. 65 nationally marking the 13th consecutive year the Islanders have been ranked in the National Top-75 poll.
As a program, the Islanders have reached 10 NCAA Tournaments in program history and captured 22 Southland titles in the last 12 years.
