Corpus Christi Tallies Over 20 New PRs

Simmons sets a hammer throw program record, as multiple Islanders set personal records

EDINBURG, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi set a plethora of personal records this Saturday, as the Islander women beat UTRGV by 26 at this year's South Texas Showdown Dual in Edinburg.

The Blue and Green took home 15 event wins this Saturday, with 10 of those victories coming from the Corpus Christi women. Thrower Kaelin Simmons crushed her school's program record by nearly five meters with her toss of 54.37m in the hammer throw. The fifth-year senior finished just ahead of her teammate Diamond Thomas in second (51.47m), as the two athletes produced the top two performances in Corpus history.

For the men, multi-athlete Bjoern Adden set a pair of PRs in the 110m hurdles (15.23) and the long jump (6.95m). Adden's mark in the latter is the second greatest in school history, coming in second at this week's dual.

Having competed in only the high jump during her three years with the Islanders, Sashane Hanson participated in the first 100m hurdles event of her career, finishing first in a time of 14.49. Despite running the event at the collegiate level for the very first time, Hanson's pace is the sixth fastest in the history of the program, as the junior also took first in the high jump on a clearance of 1.60m.

The women's side accrued 88 points over the course of the afternoon in comparison to UTRGV's 62, while the men were forced to take a loss to the Vaqueros at 81-59.
