Beach Finishes 2-1 in Day One of the Southland Showcase

HOUSTON, Texas  – The Islanders start the Southland Showcase 2-1, beating Abilene Christian for the second time this season and getting revenge on Central Arkansas.
 
Houston Baptist vs. Corpus Christi (0-5)
 
Islanders number four pairing Kayla Walker (Murrieta, California) and Maya Daukas (Santa Monica, California) took set one 21-18, but fell in set two and three 16-21, 11-15.
 
Blue and Green's first pairing in Selina Marolf (Bern, Switzerland) and Abigail DeVido (Ashburn, Virginia) fought hard losing in the first set 12-21 and fell 17-21 in the second set. Rachel Young (Frisco, Texas) and Madison Green (Dripping Springs, Texas), the Islanders number two pairing, fell in set one 18-21 and set two 15-21. Madi Fitzsimmons (Murphy, Texas) and Demi McInnis (Cypress, Texas) followed behind falling 16-21 and in a hard fought battle lost set two 22-24. The Islanders number five pairing in Jenna Krenek (Houston, Texas) and Naomi Overstreet (Oakland, California) fell in both sets 15-21 and 18-21.

Abilene Christian vs. Corpus Christi (5-0)
 
DeVido and Marolf, the Blue and Green's first pairing, breezed by the Wildcats 21-18 and 21-9. Islanders number two pairing in Green and Young, finished second on the day, and won in two sets 21-12 and 23-21. Pair three, Fitzsimmons and McInnis, won set one 21-9, fell in set two 16-21 and after a close finish fell 15-9 to ACU.
 
Olivia Rook (Arlington, Texas) and Simon made up the Islanders number four pairing fell in the first set 17-21 but came up on top the last two sets 21-18, 15-6. Krenek and Overstreet, the Islanders fifth pairing, defeated ACU in two sets 21-11 and 21-12.
 
Central Arkansas vs. Corpus Christi (3-2)
 
Pair one, DeVido and Marolf took set one 21-15, fell in set two 17-21, and took set three 17-15. Islanders number two pairing in Green and Young took the first set against the sugarbears 21-14 but fell set two in fashion 14-21 and won set three 15-13.The Islanders fifth pairing, Krenek and Overstreet, took set one 22-20 and fell in the second and third 8-21 and 13-15.
 
Number three pairing in McInnis and Fitzsimmons and fell in two sets 15-21 and 13-21. Rook and Simon made of the fourth pairing and fell 10-21, 13-21.
