Blue and Green Fall In Extras

Islanders tie things in the ninth, before falling in extra innings on Sunday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi climbed back from a 7-4 deficit on Sunday, but were unable to secure a win in extras, as Lamar took the final 9-7 in the 10th.

The Cardinals once again took a lead against the Blue and Green, after scoring four through the first three innings. The Islander offense reacted with a pair of walks and a single in the bottom half of frame number three, as Enrique Sanchez Jr. tallied Corpus Christi's first run of the day on a sacrifice fly.

After falling behind by five runs, the Islanders decimated the Cardinals' lead over the final four terms, scoring three in the sixth alone. With Sanchez reaching on a double, Drake Osborn drove in his teammate later in the inning on an RBI groundout. The Blue and Green would continue to go on a two-out run, loading the bases on a pair of walks and an Itchy Burts single.

Burts went on to score on a Cardinal fielding error before Nick Anderson drew a bases loaded walk, to pull within a pair of runs of LU. Lamar scored another run in the top of the ninth, as the Blue and Green received one last chance to break even with their opponents.

Jackson Owens and Anderson started off the frame with a pair of knocks before Harrison DiNicola drove in the latter on a single to right. With just one out remaining in the contest, Osborn would come up clutch for his side with a double, to score both Dinicola and Anderson, as the Islanders prepared for their third extra-innings contest of the year.

The Cardinals finished the night with the win however, scoring a pair of runs to start the 10th. Three straight outs for the Islanders in the bottom half ended things at 9-7, handing the Blue and Green their third loss of the week.
  • Six Islanders recorded hits on the night, with Burts and Dinicola each picking up a pair
  • Going 2-for-3 on the afternoon, Burts has hit in seven of his last eight games. He's hitting .394 with an on-base percentage of .417 since April 2nd

  • Nick Anderson hit in all three games against the Cardinals this weekend, while drawing three walks, driving in three runs and hitting his fourth homer of the season
  • Cole Carter surrendered three runs over his 5.2 innings of relief work. His appearance was his longest of the season, striking out four LU batters
