KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Islanders sweep both matches 5-0 against Abilene Christian and St. Edwards in day one of the Kingsville Tournament.
Abilene Christian vs. Corpus Christi (5-0)
Blue and Green's first pairing in
Selina Marolf (Bern, Switzerland) and
Abigail DeVido (Ashburn, Virginia) defeated ACU's Katelyn Muller and Eighmy Dobbins in two sets, 21-18, 21-7.
Rachel Young (Frisco, Texas) and
Madison Green (Dripping Springs, Texas), the Islanders number two pairing, won in easy fashion over the Wildcats 21-8 in the first set and 21-13 in the second set.
Madi Fitzsimmons (Murphy, Texas) and
Demi McInnis (Cypress, Texas) defeated ACU 21-11, and took set two 21-14. Islanders number four pairing
Kayla Walker (Murrieta, California) and
Maya Daukas (Santa Monica, California) breezed through both sets 21-7, 21-9.
The Islanders number five pairing
Gabriella Johnston (Kerrville, Texas) and
Naomi Overstreet (Oakland, California) took set one 21-13, fell in set two 24-26, but took the victory 17-15 in set three.
St. Edwards vs. Corpus Christi (5-0)
Jenna Krenek (Houston, Texas) and Overstreet made up the Islanders fifth pairing took both sets 21-15, 21-8. Blue and Green's fourth pairing in Walker and Daukas took the first set 21-13 and 21-7 in the second set. Pair three, Fitzsimmons and McInnis won set one 21-5, and secured the victory 21-13 in set two.
Islanders number two pairing in Green and Young breezed through the Wildcats taking both sets 21-5 and 21-4. DeVido and Marolf, the Blue and Green's first pairing, closed out the day securing the sweep beating SEU's Julia Hartley and Maddie Miksch in two sets, 21-10 and 21-13.
