CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returns to Austin for the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this week, with three athletes taking to the track this Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.Â
Foregoing this week's multi events, the Islanders will make their debut at this year's relays on Thursday, with junior
Kendall Rodriguez competing in the 400m hurdles at 5:30 PM.Â
MEET HISTORY
- Sashane Hanson set an Islander record at last year's Texas Relays, clearing a height of 1.78m in the high jump
- Zhafear Ray set a personal record with a 2.12m in the high jump, his mark still sits third in program history
- The Blue and Green men and women placed 14th and 11th in last year's relays respectively
ISLANDERS IN THE FIELD
- Diamond Thomas collected three outdoor program records this past week, setting new school bests in the hammer throw (50.32m), discus (51.63) and shot put (14.90m) at the Victor Lopez Classic in Houston
- Hannah McWilliams sits second in the Southland currently with a 3.90m in last week's pole vault
- Sashane Hanson competes in the high jump at 11 AM on Friday, she currently owns eight of the top-10 high jumps in Islander history
- Zhafear Ray will attempt to improve on the PR of 2.12m he set at last year's Texas Relays, competing in the high jump on Friday at 2 PM
ISLANDERS ON THE TRACK
- Allyson Girard returns to the 5000m track after setting a new Islander record in the event at this past week's Victor Lopez Classic (16:27.41)
- Kendall Rodriguez has turned in personal records in her last two appearances in the 400m hurdles, looking to improve on the 1:03.17 she ran at last week's VLC
- Rabea Schoneborn will be competing alongside Girard in the 5000m this Thursday at 8:10 PM, her time of 16:53.32 sits behind only Girard for the fastest time in Islander history
- Sierra Pruitt and Mikayla Roell will both be competing in the 100m this Friday. Pruitt currently sits fourth in the conference with a time of 11.89 in the UTSA Invitational earlier this season
The Islanders sit within the top-10 of the Southland Conference in 23 different events this season, with eight different athletes standing within the top-10 of the NCAA West Region in their respective events. The Blue and Green will look to further improve on their already record-setting outdoor season this weekend, claiming nine Islander-bests in their opening two weeks of competition.
COMING UP NEXT
After its competition in Austin, Corpus Christi looks on toward the UTRGV Invitational the following Saturday, competing against the Vaqueros in the annual South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. The Islanders have already clinched this year's rivalry trophy, after beating UTRGV baseball in walk-off fashion last Tuesday.
