Women's Basketball gears up for Tuesday test against New Mexico State

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Following last season's tight nine-point road loss to New Mexico State, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball program (5-4, 0-0 Southland) enters Tuesday evening's contest against the Aggies (5-3, 0-0 WAC) steeled for a tough non-conference test, tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. on the Corpus Christi Athletic Club court at the American Bank Center. The dynamic one-two punch of then-sophomores Dalesia Booth and Emma Young helped the Islanders push NMSU to the brink last year in Las Cruces, N.M., dropping a team-high 14 points apiece in the 70-61 loss. While the Aggies lead the all-time series 3-0, but victories have steadily become closer game-to-game (27 points in 2008, 19 in 2015 and nine in 2017).

  • Royce Chadwick enters his seventh season leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 35th overall year as head coach, sporting a 648-406 record.
  • The Islanders 19-win season last year marked Chadwick's best finish with A&M-Corpus Christi since his arrival in 2012.
  • The team sports two lone seniors: F Uri Jolivette and G Brianna Jackson.
  • This year's roster is highlighted by four newcomers, as juniors Alexes Bryant and Arhianna Sims-Jackson transferred from junior colleges while freshmen Torrionna Nesbitt and Makinna Serrata signed on directly from high school.

Following Tuesday's matchup with New Mexico State, the Islanders wrap up the pre-Holiday season against Texas Lutheran on Thursday, Dec. 20 at the American Bank Center, tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action after the Holiday Break for its Southland Conference opener, traveling to Central Arkansas to battle the Sugar Bears on Dec. 31.
