Women's Basketball Starts Challenging Three-Game Road Trip at Baylor

WACO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in the new season for a tough three-game swing, which kicks off Sunday at 2 p.m. for a showdown with Big 12 foe Baylor in Waco.

The Islanders (1-0) most recently got 2026-27 off on the right foot, emerging victorious in their season opener against Our Lady of the Lake on Wednesday by a final score of 76-36. In the win, every player that hit the floor got on the scoresheet with at least two points, a group led by Rayna Williams and Sille-Liis Mölder with 11 and Naiya Carney with 10 in her return to action for the first time since March 2025. The team also played some stifling defense, holding the Saints to just 25.6 percent shooting from the field and forcing them into 32 turnovers on the night.

Sunday's contest represents a homecoming for A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Toyelle Wilson, who spent six seasons as an assistant coach for the Bears (2-0) under Hall of Fame coach Kim Mulkey from 2013-2019. While in Waco, Wilson was part of 11 Big 12 Conference Championships – six regular season and five tournament – while also winning the National Championship in her final season in 2019. She will be searching for her first victory against her former team as a head coach, having dropped a pair of contests while in charge at SMU in 2022 and 2023.

Likewise, the Islanders will also be looking to down Baylor for the first time in program history, as they currently sit with a record of 0-4 in the all-time matchup. The last time the two squads met came on November 17, 2024 after a nearly 17-year break in the series, where they came up short by a final score of 65-43. Sunday's matchup will look a lot different, however, as just three players remain from the 22 that saw the court that day. This group – Carney for the Islanders and Kyla Abraham and Kayla Nelms for the Bears – combined to score just a single point in 20 minutes of action.

Sunday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ with Lincoln Rose and Faith Lynch on the call. The live stats will also be available to follow along as they happen.
