Softball releases 2019 schedule

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi head softball coach Blake Miller has announced the Islanders 2019 schedule. The slate includes four tournaments including one at home on Chapman Field. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will also host 15 other games on Ward Island this season.

"We put together a very challenging non-conference schedule that is going to include some high level teams playing right here on the Island," said Miller. "This level of competition is only going to help us when Southland Conference play begins. I am really looking forward to watching this team play this spring."

The Islanders will begin the season at the Ragin Cajun Invitational in Lafayette, La., on Friday, Feb. 8. The weekend after that, the team heads to Hammond, La., for the Lion Classic, hosted by Southeastern La.

The 2019 home opener will feature a double-header against Prairie View A&M on Wednesday, Feb. 20, starting at 1 p.m. Starting on Friday, Feb. 22, A&M-Corpus Christi will host the Islander Invitational which will include Big 10 member Wisconsin. Details for the weekend including game times and matchups will be released at a later date.

The last regular season tournament is scheduled for Friday, March 1, at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.

During the conference season, the Islanders will host Houston Baptist (March 8-9), Stephen F. Austin (March 29-30), Sam Houston State (April 19-20) and the University of the Incarnate Word (May 3-4). Road series include Lamar (March 15-16), Southeastern La. (March 22-23), Central Arkansas (April 5-6), Northwestern State (April 12-13) and Abilene Christian (April 26-27).

The Islanders will also play non-conference games at the University of Texas (March 13), at Texas Southern (March 20), at Prairie View A&M (April 3) and at UT-San Antonio (April 17).

The 2019 Southland Conference Tournament is being hosted by Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La., starting on May 7.
