Tennis announces competitive 2019 schedule

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Director of Tennis Steve Moore has announced the Islanders' men's and women's schedules for the 2019 season. The schedule includes matchups against Rice, SMU, Louisiana and a men's nationally televised match at Texas on Jan. 30. The home schedule is highlighted by the 53rd Annual HEB Tournament of Champions, the longest running college tournament in America, which takes place in Corpus Christi starting on Friday, Feb. 22.

"We are excited to provide highly competitive college home matches to the Corpus Christi community again," said Moore. "This great community has supported Islander tennis in a special way, propelling us to be ranked top-10 in national attendance five separate years. We are grateful with all our hearts for this support."

In addition to the HEB Tournament of Champions, the Islanders will host six men's matches and eight women's matches. Starting on Friday, April 26, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will also play host to the 2019 Southland Conference Men's and Women's Tournament. Fans can view the men's schedule HERE and the women's schedule HERE.

On the women's side, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will go for a fourth-consecutive Southland Conference title and will look to earn the team's fourth trip to the NCAA Championships in the last five years. The Islander women are 38-3 in Southland Conference regular season and tournament play in the last three seasons.

The Islander men's team will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the eighth time in program history. The men have also put together an impressive 13-year streak of being ranked in the ITA National top-75. In the 57 year history of the Southland Conference, the Islander men are 1-of-4 teams in any sport to win 10 titles in 11 years. This year's team returns every singles starter from last season's squad that was one point away from advancing to the NCAA Championships.

"Our schedules also feature challenging home and away matches with rivals UTSA, UT-Arlington and UTRGV," Moore said. "I am a big fan of these home-away rivalries as they bring great tradition and a competitive atmosphere. We are very blessed to be in a region where we can play a top national schedule without traveling long distances. This is a great benefit to competing in Texas in NCAA Division I."
