CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will host the 2018 Contender CrossFit Islander Open this weekend at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. This year marks the 13th consecutive year that the Islanders have hosted an ITA sanctioned event in the fall and spring, bringing high-level in NCAA D-1 Tennis to Corpus Christi.
The Islanders will have three doubles teams in action and six individuals. There are two flights of doubles and four flights of singles scheduled to be played this weekend. This year's field includes Rice University, UT-Rio Grande Valley, University of the Incarnate Word and Laredo Community College.
The action begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the opening rounds of doubles. Singles play will start around 11 a.m. Singles and doubles quarterfinals will take place on Friday followed by the semifinals on Saturday. Sunday will feature championship, third place, fifth place and seventh place matches for both singles and doubles. Play will begin at 10 a.m. each day at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center(900 Nile Drive).

This will be the final fall competition for the Islander men. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's team will play at the Sam Houston State Bearkat Invitational starting on Saturday, Nov. 3, to close out their fall season.
As a program, the Islanders have reached 10 NCAA Tournaments in program history and captured 22 Southland titles in the last 12 years.
