Golf places 11th at FIU Pat Bradley Invitational

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi golf team finished 11th at the 41st FIU Pat Bradley Invitational at the Lakewood Ranch Golf Course in Bradenton, Fla., on Tuesday. The Islanders carded their lowest round of the tournament, firing a 296 in the third and final round. Dani Bergmann had three birdies on the day and shot a one-under 71 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 17th overall.

"Our goal today was to get off to a better start and we did that," said head coach Joni Stephens. "Good solid play by Daniela, Brooklyn and Autumn in today's round. Kellsey and Alex started out steady, but had some big numbers on the back side that kept them from finishing well. As a team, we hit a lot of greens and made more birdies today. Unfortunately, we had a lot of missed birdie opportunities; we were close all day but struggled to get the putts to drop. So that was a little disapointing. Moving forward, we have to continue to work on the mental side of the game, controlling the things we can and maintaining our focus and intensity throughout the entire round. I am excited about this team We have the ability to do some great things."

Bergmann's 218 is tied for the fifth lowest 54-hole total in program history. The team's 902 is the third lowest 54-hole score all time and the 296 is the eighth lowest 18-hole total in program history.

Brooklyn Sutton tied her low round of the tournament with a 74. She also shot a 74 during Sunday's first round. She finished in a tie for 33rd place. Autumn Bynum shot an even-par 72 and moved into a tie for 48th place for the week. She had four birdies during Tuesday's round. Kellsey Sample tied for 68th overall and Alex Amos tied for 72nd.

UTEP won the team title at 862, three shots clear of USF (865) who finished second. Natalia Villavicencio of USF won the individual title at 209 (-7).

A&M-Corpus Christi will play at the Mercer Idle Hour Collegiate in Macon, Ga., starting on Monday, Nov. 5 in the team's final fall event. The spring season starts at the Texas State Invitational in Tyler, Texas on Monday, Feb. 11.
