HOUSTON – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis opened the Rice Fall Invitational in impressive fashion, as both Kellerman twins each beat representatives from the Miami Hurricanes to highlight the day.
"This is some of the best competition in the country and I was very pleased with the way the guys chose to compete," said Director of Tennis
Steve Moore. "It was a hot physical day and I thought our guys chose to be very mentally strong."
Francois Kellerman topped Pablo Aycart from Miami in his opening match of the invitational. Playing in the main draw, Francois knocked off Aycart in come-from-behind fashion, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Okkie Kellerman won both of his singles matches in the Owl Draw. Okkie opened his day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Niclas Genovese from Miami. The Islander went on to defeat Josh Hublitz from UNCW in his second match of the day. Kellerman moved into the semifinals of his draw with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Hublitz.
Carlos Pedrosa Cuevas also earned a semifinal spot in the Owl Draw. Pedrosa enjoyed a first-round bye before toppling Tadhg Collins of Air Force. The Islander won in straight sets by a dominating 6-2, 6-1 score line.
DOUBLES SUCCESS
William Mottet and Pedrosa paired together for an 8-4 victory in their quarterfinal matchup. The Islander duo knocked off De Rueda and Morphy from UNCW to advance to Saturday's action.
The Kellerman twins also earned a quarterfinal victory over UNCW. The twins defeated Calzi and Torres by an 8-6 final.
SATURDAY SETUP
The Islanders will continue in the Rice Fall Invitational with matches on Saturday and Sunday.
