Bauer to Play for the US at World Maccabiah Games

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer midfielder Chayse Bauer was selected to represent the United States at the 20th World Maccabiah Games in Israel from July 4-18. The rising sophomore will play for the Maccabi USA Open Women's Soccer Team for the second time in her career.

"I am incredibly excited to get another opportunity to play on this team again," Bauer said. "Playing in Germany two years ago was the best experience I have ever had in my career. The United States is one of 80 countries playing in these games. Not only will I get the opportunity to represent my country, but I get to represent the Islanders at these games. I'm thrilled to get the chance to tell so many people of the place where I play college soccer."

No stranger to representing her country, Bauer previously played for the United States during the 2015 European Maccabi Games in Germany. The Dallas native guided the Red, White and Blue to a perfect 3-0 record in group play, scoring twice and notching a trio of assists.

Bauer played a crucial role in the finals against Sweden, assisting twice as the United States won 2-0 to claim the gold medal.

This will be the 20th edition of the World Maccabiah Games, an event that debuted in 1932 and has seen over 62,000 athletes participate since. Maccabi USA will bring a team of over 1,100 athletes to join the 10,000-plus Jewish athletes from 80 other countries around the world who will be participating in 43 different sports.

First-year head coach of Islanders Soccer Craig Shaw believes this opportunity will help Bauer prepare for her sophomore season with the Blue and Green.

"This is an amazing opportunity for Chayse, and I am very excited for her to take on this adventure and challenge," Shaw commented. "It is always good to play during the summer to help prepare for the fall, and to play for your country, while playing in these pressure environments and competing for the gold medal, will only aid in her preparation."

In her freshman season, Bauer played in 17 games with six starts, scoring goals at UTSA and home against Sam Houston State.

Via the official release, Maccabi USA builds Jewish pride through sports, generating the emotional intensity, high ideals and powerful camaraderie of competition. We connect athletes, volunteers, and supporters with the global Jewish community. Our athletic, educational and cultural experiences build Jewish identity, perpetuate Jewish continuity worldwide and strengthen support for the State of Israel.

Along with Bauer, the Maccabi USA Open Women's Soccer Team will feature 12 current NCAA Division I student-athletes. The team will be guided by Wendi Whitman, a former assistant coach at UC-Irvine, Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State.
