CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Following a 3-1 week including the series victory over Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opens a condensed week on the road with a Tuesday trip to Houston Baptist before visiting Lamar on Thursday through Saturday.
The Islanders and Huskies will tangle in a 3 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday. Start times for the series at Lamar are 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday before a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
Tuesday's clash is the only meeting between the Islanders and Huskies this season. The game is officially a non-conference tilt and the two teams will not meet for a conference series this year.
The Islanders and Huskies met four times in 2016. The Blue and Green took three of the four, including winning the series against the Huskies in Houston.
Zane Otten leads the Huskies with a .337 average on the season while Spencer Halloran is just a single point behind at .336. Halloran is the leading RBI man with 21 runs driven in and also leads the club with 27 runs scored.
The Huskies are scheduled to throw right-hander Tanner Luna on Tuesday. Luna has made four appearances and worked just five innings on the season. He owns a 1.80 ERA and has limited opponents to .211 hitting on the campaign.
With the Easter Weekend on tap, the Islanders will play a Thursday-Saturday series at Lamar. The Islanders and Cardinals are both locked in a five-team fray from sixth to tenth in the league standings. All five are separated by just 1.5 games.
The Cardinals sit at 18-15 overall and 6-9 in the Southland. Robin Adames leads Lamar at .372 at the plate. Reid Russell paces the Cardinals with 29 RBI and seven home runs on the year.
Lamar rides strong hitting with a .282 average as a club. The Cardinals have hit 30 home runs on the season, second in the Southland.
In the series last season, Lamar swept the Islanders in Corpus Christi.
Islander right-hander
Chris Cooper is the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week. Cooper earned a win in the midweek at UTSA before earning two saves in the series against Southeastern Louisiana. The honor is the first of the season for any Islander player.
