BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sashane Hanson picked up her second consecutive conference title in the high jump, as the Jamaican international cleared the 1.73-meter bar on the final day of the 2017 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships to register the only event victory for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field program.
Hanson was efficient in the high jump. After passing on the entry-level 1.53-meter bar, the sophomore needed just one run to clear heights of 1.58, 1.63 and 1.68, before securing her victory with one jump in the final round.
The 10 points from Hanson went a long way for the women to claim 22.5 points in ninth place. For the men, a fourth-place finish by the 4x400-meter relay team moved the Islanders into a tie for 10th with 21 points for the meet.

Jaran Cadena Tristan McNeal sprinted to the second fastest time in program history at 3:16.45.
The 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run produced a pair of seventh-place finishes for the men. Garland crossed in 48.69 in the 400, while
Will Maraggia set his personal best for indoor season with a 1:53.70 in the 800.
Hannah McWilliams took fourth in the pole vault at 3.77 meters, the second highest mark in school history.
In the sprints for the women,
Chloe Young scored with a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, one day after setting the program record for the fourth time this season.
Ebony Collins added points in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash, coming in fifth and eighth, respectively.
Steven Galli finished sixth in the mile at 4:18.64, before fellow distance teammate
Vinnie Van Puyvelde scored in the 3,000-meter run by placing eighth, two seconds ahead of
Cesar Gonzalez in ninth.
Sam Houston State swept the field for the men and women with 142.5 and 127 points, respectively.
Outdoor season is right around the corner for the Islanders. The first meet will be on March 3 at the Valley Classic College Meet, hosted by UTRGV. It will serve as the first ever track & field contest in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.
