NATCHITOCHES, La. – Despite outhitting Northwestern State in two of the three sets, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi suffered its second-straight Southland Conference loss as the Demons captured a 25-23, 26-24, 25-19 match on Saturday.
Madeleine Doud knocked down 12 kills and hit .600 to lead the Islanders (8-10, 5-2)
Madison Green and
Brittany Gilpin added eight kills apiece in the loss.
In the opening set, the Islanders outhit Northwestern State .333-220, but six service errors from the Islanders and a pair of Demon aces made up eight points at the service line. The second set saw a similar story as the Blue and Green again outhit the Demons, but four more service errors helped Northwestern State to a 26-24 win in the set.
The third set turned on a 4-0 run which broke a 12-12 deadlock. Three of those four points were self-inflicted as NSU built a 16-12 advantage.
The Islanders would get no closer than three the rest of the way as Northwestern State closed the match with a 3-0 run.
Reagan Rogers paced NSU with 17 kills while Hanna Brister knocked down 10 kills and hit .391.
A WELCOME RETURN HOME
Corpus Christi will now return to the Dugan Wellness Center to host Lamar on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. The match is the Islanders' annual Pink Match, designated to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
