Men's Tennis Wraps Fall at ITA Regionals

Islanders head to College Station to battle best in Texas

October 18, 2017

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Men's tennis closes its fall schedule as a pair of Islanders head to the ITA Texas Regionals hosted by Texas A&M on Thursday.

William Mottet and Carlos Pedrosa Cuevas will represent the Islanders in College Station beginning on Thursday. The pair will be part of a field that features the players from every Division I program in the Lone Star State.

"We've played challenge matches within our team all fall and these two earned the right to represent the Islanders at the ITA Regionals," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore.

Mottet and Pedrosa have each enjoyed strong falls thus far, leading a young Islanders squad aiming for an 11th Southland title in the past 12 years. Pedrosa was in action last weekend at the UTSA Cup while Mottet returns to the courts for the first time since the Big Easy Classic in New Orleans.

"Our team has worked extremely hard and I feel like they're improving daily," said Moore. "This is such a high character group and I'm so proud of the progress they made in the fall."

Over the years, the Islanders have a tradition of strong performances at the ITA Regionals. Last season, Paul Cook advanced to the round of 16, earning a victory of a Texas Longhorn along the way. In 2008, the Blue and Green captured the doubles title to send a pairing to the Indoor National Championships.

The ITA Texas Regionals concludes the fall schedule for the Islanders. The Blue and Green will return to action in the spring in search of an 11th Southland Conference Title in 12 years.
