COLLEGE STATION, Texas –
Aaron Rosales and
Logan Jorgensen each set records at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday, as the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field team opened its 2017 indoor season. Both the men and women took fourth place in the one-day meet.
Rosales broke the school record weight throw with his distance of 13.75 meters. He topped teammate
Ben Clark's previous mark of 13.21 meters set at the 2016 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
Jorgensen beat his own program best in the pole vault by launching over the bar set at 4.61 meters. The Woodlands native's previous record came at the 2016 SLC Indoor Championship.
In the women's side, fellow thrower
Adrienne Nickleson was eighth in the shot put with a distance of 12.84 meters. Besting herself at the 2016 Southland Conference indoor championships, the native of Corpus Christi's effort was the 10th-best all time.
Diamond Thomas produced the fifth-best weight throw in program history at 13.61 meters.
Sashane Hanson took second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters, which is fourth all time. She now holds three of the top five performances in that event, including the program record.
On the track,
Liz Romo dominated the field in the 5000-meter run to earn the lone first-place finish for the Islanders. Her time of 18:10.86 did not only win by 49 seconds over second place, but broke the meet record and earned eighth in the program record book.
Will Maraggia started his junior off on the right foot with a pair of top-five finishes. In the 800-meter run, his 1:54.16 placed third and was the fifth fastest time at A&M-Corpus Christi. His second top performance came in the men's distance medley relay, along with
Jaran Cadena,
Tristan McNeal and
Steven Galli. The DMR finished second in its race.

Ben Clark earned seventh place honors in the shot put at 15.04 meters, the fourth longest on the Island.

Brandon Walls ran the 10th fastest 60-meter dash in program history with a 7.14 in the prelims.

Ebony Collins qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash at 7.72. The ninth-best finish at A&M-Corpus Christi gives Collins seven of the top-10 times.
>> Terrian Spivey crossed the finish line in 49.18 for third in the 400-meter dash.

Zhafear Ray tied for seventh all time with a height of 1.99 meters in the high jump, as he took fifth-place honors.

Hannah McWilliams flew in the women's pole vault to fourth place, topping 3.72 meters.
