Izzy the Islander Competes in Southland Conference Mascot Challenge

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Izzy the Islander begins his annual competition on Thursday with the start of the 2016 Southland Conference Mascot Challenge presented by MidSouth Bank. The competition pits all 13 mascots across the Southland Conference against each other with the victor securing $5,000 for his spirit team.
 
"For the past couple of years, Izzy has come in second place, which is remarkable considering we are one of two schools that does not have football," said head cheer & dance coach Melanie Lowry. "This year, we are ready to win this competition with the amazing support of the Island University. The money would allow us to purchase new uniforms for our cheerleaders and pay for travel to camps for the upcoming year."
 
Fans can vote for Izzy by going to the Southland Conference Facebook page. The Southland Conference will post mascot standings and fan submitted photos each week.
 
Islanders may vote for Izzy once a day, per competition rules. Submitting a photo of yourself and Izzy will count as a bonus vote. Voting will begin Thursday, September 1 at noon and will end Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11:59 p.m.
