5th Coastal Bend Cheer and Dance Challenge Set for March 4

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi spirit programs will host the 5th Annual Coastal Bend Cheer and Dance Challenge on March 4 in the Dugan Wellness Center. The 2016 edition featured 88 routines.
 
The cheer portion of the challenge will be broken up into team routines, individual entries, mascots, all-girl/group stunt, partner stunt and exhibition routine, while the dancing will have team routines, officer routines, solos, duets and ensembles (small, medium and large).
 
As part of the solo/individual competition, high school seniors are encouraged to compete for up to a $300 scholarship to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as part of the Islanders Spirit Teams by performing an individual routine.
 
Critique sheets will be issued. Solos will be judged on showmanship, originality, difficulty, technique, appearance, style, memory and flexibility.
 
Deadline for receiving entry, contest fees, and names of solos, ensembles, and officers is two weeks before the contest. Spectator tickets for the competition are available at the door of the competition site and tickets cover all day. Cost of entrance is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Two years and under will get in free. There will be a concession stand available for the teams and spectators.
 
Participants who register by Jan. 15 will receive a free solo routine.
