CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The largest dance team in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi history will head to Texas State, along with the Islanders Cheer squad, for the Universal Dance Association (UDA) and Universal Cheer Association (UCA) camp. The Islanders will compete in a four-day camp over July 15-18.

22 dancers arrived on the Island last week to begin preparations for the camp. Last year, the Islanders earned a clean sweep for the individual routines and garnered a total of 30 blue superior ribbons, along with a superior trophy.
For the first time in five years, all the Islanders received a blue ribbon for their individual routines. In addition, the squad received a gold superior ribbon for their traditional fight song, and earned the Most Collegiate award in Division I for the fourth year in a row.
Competing in the Division I fight song competition, the Islanders Cheer team, featuring 18 competitors and Izzy the Islander, will aim to reach the exceed the benchmarks from 2015. For the first time in program history the Islanders earned the Leadership award for Division I, which is voted on by the entire camp. The squad also earned superior blue ribbons for their fight song, cheer and sideline routines.
In addition, the Islanders earned second place in Division I for their cheer routine, second place in Division I small co-ed for their Game Day competition routine, third place in Division I for their sideline routine and third place in Division I small co-ed for their fight song routine. Another award the Islanders received was the Game Day Planning award.
