CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Garrett Harris became the third Islander to sign a professional contract this year, as the Anderson native inked a deal with the Kansas City Royals organization.

Harris was a steady presence out of the bullpen in 2016 for A&M-Corpus Christi, as the righty tossed 40 1/3 innings for a 2-2 record. The Brookhaven Junior College transfer wrapped up his two-year stint with the Blue and Green by striking out 42 batters and picking up a pair of saves.
The senior joins fellow Islanders Chris Falwell and Casey Thomas as rookies in the professional ranks. Both players were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. The San Francisco Giants drafted Fallwell in the 16th round, while Thomas went to the Oakland Athletics in the 34th round.
Harris will set his sights on following former Islander Jacob Dorris' lead as an undrafted free agent. Dorris has worked his way to the High-A Lancaster JetHawks in his second year.
