CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Sophomore Chloe Young won the heptathlon at this weekend's Islander Multi event, scoring 4,364 in the seven-event competition.
Young defeated teammates Mariah Ellis and Ashley Aleshire in addition to Texas A&M-Kingsville's Alice Acosta, topping all opponents by more than 560 points.
Winning five out of seven events, Young scored the most points in her natural event, the 100 meter hurdles. She clocked in at 15.48 seconds to score 779 points.

Acosta placed second with 3,802 points, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.58 meters. Ellis was third with 3,635 points and won the 800 meters in a time of 2:33.7. Aleshire took fourth with 3,377 points.
On the men's side, the Islanders' Bryan Wersterfer placed second in the decathlon, scoring 5,341 points. Chaney Clayton, competing unattached, won the event with 5,355 points. Bray Westley was third with 3,447 points and Texas A&M-Kingsville's Seth Barker was fourth with 2,744.
A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action as a full unit on Saturday, hosting the Islander Open at the Dugan Family Track & Soccer Stadium.
