Volleyball Opens Busy Week at UIW

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Just four days after sweeping the University of the Incarnate Word inside the Dugan Wellness Center on Saturday afternoon, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi makes the return trip to San Antonio on Tuesday.
 
The Islanders (16-7, 11-0) will look to inch one game closer to clinching the Southland Conference regular season championship, needing just three more wins to assure a share of the title.
 
In Saturday's matchup, the Islanders employed a lethal attack, hitting .430 as a team to sweep past the Cardinals. The .430 hitting percentage was the second highest mark in program history and the second time this season the Islanders have eclipsed the .400 plateau after hitting .461 at Sam Houston in September.
 
ISLANDERS INSIGHT
 
• Setter Kristyn Nicholson was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after orchestrating the massive offensive performance. Nicholson had 44 assists in the win over UIW.
• Three Islanders had double-digit kills in the win as Brittany Gilpin, Madi Fitzsimmons and Morgan Carlson had 14,12 and 11, respectively.
• The Islanders are now 6-1 all-time against UIW after Saturday's win. The only loss came in the first year of the program.
• The Islanders lead the league offensively with a .288 hitting percentage in conference play; that mark is 65-points better than any other team in the league.
 
SCOUTING UIW
UIW now sits at 5-6 in conference play and is seventh in the standings.
• Autumn Lockley led the Cardinals on Saturday with 15 kills against the Islanders, hitting. 364.
• Shaina Garza added eight kills and led UIW with a .467 hitting percentage.
•Bryaunea Hall scored six times on 14 attacks in the middle.
 
WEEK AHEAD
 
Tuesday marks the beginning of a three-match week for the Islanders as the Blue and Green hosts McNeese and Nicholls on Thursday and Saturday.
