Corpus Christi - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi track and field team travel to Norman, Okla. for the 2011 Southland Conference Indoor Championships. The meet begins Friday night at the Mosier Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
Kassandrea Son leads 14 members of the women's team to the conference championships starting on Friday night. Son qualified in the long, triple jump, 60m and 200m dash. She had the best mark in the Southland in the long jump at 5.94m (19-06.00).
Ernestine Cray is also scheduled to compete in four events like Son qualifying in the long, triple jump, 60m and mile relay. Courtney Johnson and Danielle Higgins will be in three events this weekend. The women's team also has three wildcard entries competing in addition to a DMR and 4x400 relay.
Patrick Kimeli and Roger De La Cruz headline the men's team group of 10 competing in Norman. Kimeli had the seventh best time in both the mile run and 3000m during the indoor season in the conference.
De La Cruz was tied for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 2.10m (6-09.75) during the season. In the 5000m four Islanders men had top 12 times lead by Adrian Marquez with the seventh best time, Ari Perez ninth, Jason Garcia 10th and Justin Adame was 11th.
The competing list of those who'll be competing will be Dallas Brown, Roger De La Cruz, Jason Garcia, Adrian Marquez, Quincy Obeng, Ari Perez, Scott Vance, Matt Youngblood and Eloy Zertuche.
Competing on the women's side for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi are Caitlin Arambula, BreAnna Briggs, Ernestine Cray, Cecilia Gonzalez, Danielle Higgins, Courtney Johnson, Sarah Kimaiyo, Shelby Nichols, Daniela Prado, Ashley Rosebrough, Julia Sambu, Sidney Siepert, Kassandrea Son and Kristine Torres.
