Steve Farris was hired as the Islanders' Director of Operations in September, 2018. He graduated from Texas State University in 2012 with his bachelor's degree in psychology. He first came to the Island in January of 2014 as the team's graduate assistant. Farris assisted with daily practices, maintained the program's equipment and helped track game statistics. He also helped organize the team's summer camp program.

In 2015, he took on a more extensive role with the program ans an operation's assistant. For two seasons, Farris helped oversee the team's managers and graduate assistants while coordinating the team's travel, camp offerings, marketing and scheduling. In his role he also helped organize the Islanders' community service efforts, daily practice schedules and weight room workouts. He helped prepare video for scouting, tracked game and practice statistics and served as a liaison to the rest of the athletic department.
