While on staff, Lawler has assisted in leading the women's basketball team to two Southland Conference championships including the program's first-ever SLC Tournament title in 2023-24 after defeating Lamar 68-61 in the final. It allowed the team to make its first trip to the NCAA Tournament where they faced No. 1 USC in the First Round.

Lawler is a 2015 graduate of A&M-Corpus Christi and earned a Bachelor's in University Studies with a concentration in English. She went on to earn her Master's in Secondary Education from The Island University.

Lawler played two seasons for the Islanders as a student-athlete. In her junior year, she aided the team in posting an 18-13 overall record and 12-6 in conference. Lawler was a Team Captain as a senior and also served as a SAAC Representative for the women's basketball program. Upon graduation, Lawler worked as a 14U head coach and 16&17 assistant coach with Kane's Basketball AAU Program. She also worked at Seguin High School as both an English teacher and a coach for basketball and softball from 2018-21.

At Seguin, Lawler earned Rookie of the Year honors as a coach. Her entire team was named to the Academic All-District team and she coached All-District First and Second Team guards and the Newcomer of the Year.
