Ty Echevarria (Etch-eh-vuh-reyuh) is entering his first year as a graduate assistant for the Islanders men’s basketball team where he assists with player development, scouting, and video breakdowns. He was hired as a graduate assistant in August of 2022.

He arrived at The Island University after spending a season at Otero College where they went 23-7 and made it to Region IX Tournament Championship Game. At Otero, Echevarria helped with recruiting, on-court development, scouting and academics for the Rattlers.

Echevarria got to Otero after spending one year as an assistant at Missouri Baptist University (NAIAI) in Saint Louis, Missouri. He also gained experience at the high school in southern California at Citrus Hill High School and Nuview Bridge High school.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in April of 2022 in Sports Psychology from Grand Canyon University. He will be pursuing a Master’s in Kinesiology from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
