Johnson joined the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball staff as Assistant Coach prior to the 2023-24 season. He spent the previous five years at Texas State, including the last as Director of Basketball Operations/Recruiting Coordinator.
Johnson also worked as an assistant coach and graduate assistant in his time with the Bobcats. He helped Texas State win back-to-back regular season Sun Belt Conference titles in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Prior to joining the Bobcat staff, Johnson worked for a year at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. He served as the associate head coach with the varsity team and as the head coach of the junior varsity squad. His lone season with the Bulldogs saw him help coach the team to the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The team received the No. 3 seed in the NAIA DII National Tournament, ended the year ranked No. 9 in the country, and recorded a 23-8 record. UC had three all-conference, three all-academic, and two all-defensive team selections.

Along with his coaching duties, Johnson also served as the Bulldogs’ recruiting coordinator, video coordinator, logistics coordinator, supervised team managers directed the strength and conditioning program and aided in fundraising and community outreach actives.

Johnson worked two years at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama before heading to Union College. At SSCC he was the associate head coach with the men’s basketball team and the head coach of both the women’s basketball and men’s junior varsity programs. His duties included serving as the recruiting coordinator, director of player development, planning and coordinating practices, logistics coordinator, video coordinator, and director of strength and conditioning for both programs. During his time at SSCC, over 30 athletes graduated and went on to play at four-year colleges or universities.

In 2016, Johnson recruited and signed the entire men’s basketball class that went on to win the 2017-18 NJCAA Region 22 Championship for the first time in 28 years. He also helped the men’s team to an 11-win increase (eight to 19 wins) in his first year. As the women’s coach, Johnson recorded a 14-win improvement in the 2015-16 season going from seven victories to 21. He followed with 19 wins in the 2016-17 campaign.

Johnson worked one year as a head coach and director of post-graduate player development in Sarasota, Florida for IMPACT Basketball Academy. During his time there he planned practices, scouted other teams, and worked on skill development for elite high school athletes.

He began his coaching career as the freshman boys’ basketball and varsity assistant coach at Saline High School in Saline, Michigan and served in the roles from Oct. 2012 to Aug. 2014.

Johnson graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sport management in May 2014.
