Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and head baseball coach Scott Malone announced the addition of Alan Sailors to the Islanders' coaching staff as the new Volunteer Assistant in October 2018, a move designed to boost the program's knowledge behind the plate and on the recruiting trail. Sailors brings a wide variety of experience to Corpus Christi, leaving his role as catching coach/recruiting coordinator at Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas) for the position on the Islanders' staff.
Prior to joining Tigers, Sailors coached at four different institutions including Texas Lutheran (Seguin, Texas), Meridian Community College (Meridian, Miss.), Mary Hardin-Baylor (Belton, Texas) and his alma mater, Howard Payne (Brownwood, Texas).
During his four-season stint as a player with Yellow Jackets baseball, Sailors compiled an impressive résumé behind home plate as a three-year starter. As a senior, he paced the American Southwest Conference in percentage of runners caught stealing and ranked second in total runners caught stealing.
Sailors graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences in 2013 before earning a master's degree in Sports Administration from Mary Hardin-Baylor. In June 2018, Sailors married Amy Potts.
