Islanders Fall in Regular Season Finale to Top Seeded McNeese, Set Sights on SLC Championships

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team closed out its regular season Saturday with a 5-2 setback on the road against the Southland Conference's top team at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.

The Islanders (16-4, 6-3 SLC) are now expected to secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Championships (April 19-21). It comes after going 6-3 in league play following today's loss to the regular season champions of McNeese. It is the first time since 2022 the Islanders were not regular season champions after having won the title the previous three seasons. They will now look to the SLC Tournament to add to their historic championship mark of 14 titles.

A&M-Corpus Christi fell behind early after dropping the doubles point. The Islanders' top pair of Yana Mykytyn and Kseniya Ramanouskaya battled to a tiebreak on court one but came up short, 7-6, after losses on courts two (6-4) and three (6-2) sealed the opening point.

In singles play, the Islanders looked to respond but couldn't overcome early momentum swings. The Islanders got in a 2-0 hole after a loss at court four, and the deficit grew to 3-0 after court one's result.

A&M-Corpus Christi showed resilience in the middle of the lineup. Adriana Jimenez forced a third set on court five after taking the opener 6-3, but ultimately dropped the final two sets 6-1, 6-0 as the match-clinching point was secured.

The Islanders continued to compete through the remaining courts, earning two strong victories. Mykytyn picked up a straight-sets win at No. 2, grinding through a first-set tiebreak 7-6 (7-3) before closing it out 6-3. Ramanouskaya added another point at No. 3 with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory, rallying late in the second-set tiebreak.

Juliette Jalai also pushed her match to three sets on court six, taking the first 6-2 before falling 6-0, 6-4.

Despite the result, the Islanders finished the regular season with a 16-4 overall record and a 6-3 mark in conference play, positioning themselves for a strong postseason run.
