FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will stay in Texas for three matches this weekend, competing in TCU's Invitational Friday and Saturday.
It will be another weekend of challenged opponents, with the Islanders playing another nationally ranked opponent in the hosts #6 TCU. It will be their third top-20 contest this season, with a ranked win already under their belt in #20 Tulane to open the year.
A&M-Corpus Christi will also face (rv) FGCU as well as in-conference opponent HCU which will count as the conference opener for the squads. It will be the one-off league match outside of the SLC Midseason Tournament later this month which will complete the conference slate.
The Islanders had a 3-1 record in last weekend's tournament at South Carolina, with the pairing of
Maria Duda Fernandes de Melo and
Millie Olsson going undefeated 4-0 all at court two including the Gamecocks who is ranked #20 nationally this week.
Fernandes de Melo/Olsson is coming off being named the SLC Pair of the Week after their performance on the East coast, winning every match in straight sets from Flight Two.
They are the second straight pair to win the award after
Madison Morrow/
Kristin Bobay won the season's opening SLC Pair of the Week after going 3-1 over opening weekend at the No. 1 spot with wins over #20 Tulane, Oregon, and South Florida and pushing #12 LSU to three sets.
Both pairs are 6-2 on the year, for a 12-4 record between the top two courts in the lineup.
