Women's Basketball Gets 2026-27 Underway at Home Against Our Lady of the Lake

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team finally gets the 2026-27 underway on Wednesday evening, beginning the second year of the Toyelle Wilson era with a home game against Our Lady of the Lake at 7 p.m.

The Islanders hit the court for their first official game after closing out preseason on a high note, taking down Texas A&M International at the Dugan Wellness Center last Wednesday by a final of 82-52. The blue and green had a trio of players reach double figures in that contest, a group led by freshman Laura Frances Willis with 17 points and followed close behind by Rayna Williams and Chelsy Singleton with 16 and 15 respectively. Singleton also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, which was the second-highest total on the team behind Sille-Liis Mölder with 11.

A&M-Corpus Christi will be looking to improve on its overall record in season openers on Wednesday, holding an overall mark of 12-15 dating back to their first in 1999-2000. Even with this, though, the team has made history in each of its last two openers, starting last season when it took down College of Biblical Studies 100-30 to set a new record for its largest-ever margin of victory in any single game. A year earlier, the Islanders went on the road and knocked off Texas A&M 62-56, securing their first-ever win over the Aggies and just their fourth ever against a power conference opponent.

The Islanders have taken on the Saints (0-2) on two previous occasions, with the most recent being a 72-37 home win back on November 30, 2024. Before that, they won by a similar final score a year prior, coming out on top 77-33 on December 19, 2023. The only remaining player from A&M-Corpus Christi's last game against OLLU is junior Naiya Carney, who played nine minutes as a freshman at the time and scored three points. In Wednesday's game, Carney will be making her official return to action after missing all of 2025-26 due to injury.

Wednesday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call. The live stats will also be available to follow along as they happen.
