COMMERCE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team makes its way through two different states to complete its current road trip this week, starting off with a matchup against East Texas A&M on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. before then making the trek into Louisiana to square off with Northwestern State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (2-10, 1-4 SLC) will be trying to get back on the positive side of the ledger after most recently dropping to UTRGV in Edinburg on Saturday, playing tough with the Vaqueros throughout the afternoon but taking home the loss by the final score of 58-47. Prior to starting the road swing, the team did pick up its first conference win of the season on New Year's Eve, taking down New Orleans 85-54 behind a program-record 10 first-half threes.
The first stop for A&M-Corpus Christi will be in Commerce against the Lions (6-6, 2-3 SLC), who most recently picked up a road victory over New Orleans on January 3. The team has yet to lose to East Texas A&M in the all-time series, holding a perfect 7-0 record dating back to their first showdown in 2006. The two only met one time in 2024-25, with the Islanders going on the road and erasing a double-digit deficit en route to a 55-45 win.
The Islanders will then make their way across state lines over to Natchitoches to face a hot Lady Demons (7-6, 4-1 SLC) squad that has started off their conference slate with wins over Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese, Lamar and Nicholls while only falling to Stephen F. Austin. A&M-Corpus Christi will be looking to enact some revenge on Northwestern State, as in the most recent meeting between the two, the team was eliminated from the 2025 Southland Conference Basketball Championship with a heartbreaking 66-63 loss in the tournament's opening game. This was the second of two defeats at the hands of the Lady Demons last year, which snapped what had been an 11-game winning streak that ran from January 7, 2017 to February 15, 2024.
