CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team wraps up the month of January with a pair of games at the Hilliard Center this week, starting off against UIW on Thursday at 7 p.m. before then taking on HCU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The first of these games is a rare instant rematch for the Islanders (3-15, 2-9 SLC), as they squared off with the Cardinals (10-8, 8-3 SLC) in their most recent time on the court last Saturday in San Antonio. They will be looking to earn a measure of revenge, as they fell in an early hole thanks to some hot shooting from UIW and could not climb out of it despite ripping off a 20-8 run in the third quarter that got them back into things. Redshirt sophomore
Torie Sevier had a standout performance despite the loss, scoring a team-high 20 points off the bench on a very efficient 8-10 shooting from the field.
The Islanders then finally face off against the Huskies (5-13, 3-8 SLC) two days later, who currently stand as the last remaining team that they have not seen in Southland Conference play so far this season. Last year, A&M-Corpus Christi managed to sweep the series against HCU, picking up a 62-55 victory in Houston on January 16 before then cruising to a more comfortable 74-54 win a month later at home. This marked the fourth win in a row for the team in the all-time matchup, moving its overall edge up to 18-9 since the two first met back in 2011.
Both games can be watched live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
