SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will have a split weekend starting with a quick trip up to UIW Saturday before heading back to the Hilliard Center for a Monday night matchup against UTRGV.
Saturday's game time got moved up to a 3:30 p.m. start due to incoming weather affecting travel. Monday night's tip remains at 7 p.m. but is subject to change.
The road game at UIW will be the only one away from home within a six-game stretch for the Islanders, whose return home Monday will begin a three-game homestand. It also marks the end of the first half of the conference slate as the Islanders currently hold fourth place in the league standings.
Monday's game will be the second matchup in the series and in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union. The Islanders won the first meeting 63-59 earlier this season in Edinburg and will look to go for the sweep for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
The Islanders are holding their Southland opponents to just 64 points a game, ranking second in the league in scoring defense and 30th nationally. Their three-point percentage defense ranks them 17
th in the nation, holding their opposition to just a 28 percent average beyond the arc.
A&M-Corpus Christi has been undefeated over the last five years when holding opponents to under 60 points (34-0) including 17-0 in conference play. When holding opponents to under 70 points, they hold a 35-8 (20-5 SLC) record since 2021-22.
