EDINBURG, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will play its next four conference games as the visitor, first making stops at UTRGV Saturday in Edinburg before swinging up to HCU in Houston Monday to begin the first of two away weeks.
Saturday's matchup will also be the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, an annual rivalry between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV. The institutions compete against each other across 12 sports, including twice in basketball. After the fall's results, the two are tied at 7.0-7.0 in this year's competition with the Islanders leading the all-time series 7-2.
The Islanders are coming off a split home conference week, narrowly dropping to Nicholls before bouncing back to topple New Orleans in the last contest. A&M-Corpus Christi also split their opening pair of conference games on the road at Lamar and SFA.
The Islanders are top-three in the league in every rebounding category, ranking second in rebounding average (40.1/game), defensive rebounding (26.8/game), and rebounding margin (+6.2). They are third in offensive rebounding at 13.2 per game, however, they rank first in the category in conference play with 13.0/game.
The team has outrebounded eight of their opponents this year with a 6-2 record when doing so. Over the last five years, the Islanders are 42-17 in conference play when outrebounding their Southland opponent.
